FLUID POWER COMPONENTS - HYDRAULIC RETAINERS
These hydraulic retainers were manufactured in-house at Alexander Industries from 17-4 PH stainless steel, hardened to RHc 40 prior to machining. The retainer shown here is the smallest of four versions made by Alexander Industries, measuring 7.00''x 5.00''x 4.50''. These retainers involved numerous challenging machining processes including:
- Large amounts of internal and external grooving.
- Helical thread milling of a 1.75''-12 UNF thread 2 inches deep.
- 30xD "deep hole drilling" with .125'' drills.
- Angle drilling into both 32° and 45° inclines. The 32° hole (seen on the right side of the cross-section) had to be drilled into the side of the existing groove to intersect the 30xD hole.
These retainers included many demanding dimensional, perpendicularity, and runout tolerances, many of which had to be held to ≤.001''. All of these machining processes were completed in-house.
